Iodine Explained

What is Iodine?

Iodine is a trace element that is naturally present in some foods, added to others, and available as a dietary supplement. Iodine is an essential component of the thyroid hormones thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). Thyroid hormones regulate many important biochemical reactions, including protein synthesis and enzymatic activity, and are critical determinants of metabolic activity. They are also required for proper skeletal and central nervous system development in fetuses and infants.

The thyroid gland needs iodine to make hormones. If the thyroid doesn’t have enough iodine to do its job, feedback systems in the body cause the thyroid to work harder. This can cause an enlarged thyroid gland (goiter), which becomes evident as a swollen neck.

Other consequences of not having enough iodine (iodine deficiency) are also serious. Iodine deficiency and the resulting low levels of thyroid hormone can cause women to stop ovulating, leading to infertility. Iodine deficiency can also lead to an autoimmune disease of the thyroid and may increase the risk of getting thyroid cancer. Some researchers think that iodine deficiency might also increase the risk of other cancers such as prostate, breast, endometrial, and ovarian cancer.

Iodine Deficiency During Pregnancy

Iodine deficiency during pregnancy is serious for both the mother and the baby. It can lead to high blood pressure during pregnancy for the mother, and mental retardation for the baby. Iodine plays an important role in development of the central nervous system. In extreme cases, iodine deficiency can lead to cretinism, a disorder that involves severely stunted physical and mental growth.

The Health Benefits of Iodine

According to the U.S. National Institutes of Health's website, iodine is effective for…

  • Iodine deficiency. Taking iodine supplements, is effective for preventing and treating iodine deficiencies.
  • Radiation exposure. Taking iodine by mouth may be effective for protecting against exposure to radioactive iodides in a radiation emergency.
  • Thyroid conditions. Taking iodine by mouth can improve thyroid storm and hyperthyroidism.
The Health Benefits of Iodine

Nascent Energy Boost

The word “nascent” means newborn. Nascent iodine is a special form of iodine that is made by taking molecular iodine, I2 and exposing it to a strong magnetic field. This separates the iodine into individual atoms that enter into the body and are used very easily. This form of iodine does not cause congestion in the thyroid gland like other forms of iodine and because it is very bioavailable, you will only need to take it in small amounts. The body can easily eliminate this form of iodine through the kidneys if you take more than your body needs and it is not toxic. It takes about 4-6 months for your body to be fully nourished with this iodine, and the iodine should be continued after this at the same dose.

Iodine helps to kill pathogenic (“bad”) bacteria and yeasts in your system and because of this, it is advisable to start with a small dose of the iodine and to gradually increase in order to avoid a “detox” reaction. Detox reactions occur when these bad germs die suddenly and are released into the blood stream causing such symptoms as headache, fatigue and nausea. If you get a detox reaction, it is harmless and all you will need to do is to stop the iodine for one day and to increase your water intake for a day or two, then resume the iodine at a smaller dose for a few days before increasing it again.

Consumable Form of Nascent Iodine

Normally iodine is found as 2 molecules of iodine paired (stuck) together and this is called “I2”. This form of iodine is difficult for the body to process and use correctly. As a result, doctors in that past have used potassium iodide in combination with I2 to supplement iodine with some success. In fact, iodized salt is table salt in which potassium iodide is added in small amounts. The problem with potassium iodide is that it can cause an inflammation in the thyroid known as thyroiditis. Additionally, some diets require one to avoid salt or to use natural salts that do not contain extra iodine. Some soils in which plants are grown are deficient in iodine leaving our foods depleted in this essential nutrient.

The discovery of a consumable form of nascent iodine is a recent development. If your health care provider has never heard of consumable nascent iodine, that is not unexpected. Nascent iodine is known in the scientific and medical communities, but not in a consumable form. There are at least three patents in the marketplace which reference using nascent Iodine in various ways, but not as a consumable product. Our patent is the first and only patent for a consumable form of nascent iodine. Other non-consumable forms of nascent iodine have very short lifespans and have limited uses. One process produces nascent iodine in an electrolytic bath for coating pacemakers, catheters, and other devices that enter the human body. The nascent iodine is produced in the electrolytic bath and coats the device to completely sterilize it. The other two patents involve producing nascent iodine for transdermal application by mixing chemicals to produce nascent iodine. These are very short-lived, as well, in their process. They produce nascent iodine for application on the skin.

Natural Health Benefits

Our product, Magnascent Iodine, is a consumable form of nascent iodine and is not produced chemically. It is produced electromagnetically. For this reason, our product has a long shelf life and can be taken internally to provide nascent iodine to the body.

In the year 2000, John Brookshire, an aerospace engineer with a passionate interest in holistic healing, met a missionary struggling with the devastating effects of malaria and the inability of current treatments to combat malaria. A search of holistic treatments from the 1930’s revealed a type of iodine used to treat various illnesses, including malaria. The exact formulation of this medicine from the 1930’s appears to have been lost as the parent manufacturing company was bought and sold many times within a few years. A second method for producing this iodine had been recommended at the time, but was far too costly and time-consuming to be produced in the depression era of the 30’s.

With current technology and determination, the historical process was refined to produce a revolutionary new product. Through a series of “coincidences” or synchronicity, people came together with the right information which led to the discovery and implementation of Magnascent Iodine.

The process for the discovery of a consumable form of nascent iodine was patented by John Brookshire to ensure that this discovery would not be lost to mankind, as the process used in the 1930’s had been lost when the discoverer of that version died without revealing the formulation.
